Bucky Covington loves pretty much anything with wheels, so it’s no surprise that during a recent concert taping for the 3rd Annual Fisher’s ATV World reunion show in Pennsylvania, he and his twin brother, Rocky, took to their ATVs to compete against each other in an ATV obstacle course.

Tom Burns, Getty Images

Bucky says he loves having a twin, but he’s found that it means he has to automatically double the fun whenever he makes a purchase on something fast! “The bad thing and the great thing is that I have an identical twin brother. And that’s really cool … it’s a homemade best friend from the word go,” Bucky tells The Boot. “But the bad part about it is if I go out and buy a toy, I’ve always got to buy two of ‘em! So that gets pricey after awhile! But we don’t buy real expensive stuff. I buy everything used … dirt bikes and whatever, usually pretty inexpensive stuff. Usually all it takes for us to have fun is a campfire and a cooler of beer, but sometimes you gotta have a dirt bike!”

Bucky actually had a little too much fun racing through the course, however, and took a spill head first after riding over some rocks and loose logs, according to Countryforever.com. But the daredevil still managed to get back on his ATV and win the race, head injury and all! “The best part about it was that at the age of 32, I head butted the ground like it owed me money … and the first thing I thought was, I can still win!”

Following his win on the course, Bucky rode his dirt bike out onstage to get the crowd revved and ready for his show.

Bucky gets on his bike whenever he has a chance back at home, and he and his brother even built a track and filmed a video of Bucky on it for fans. “In Nashville we put together this little dirt bike track and we wanted to twitter a video of our track. So Rocky was following me on the four wheeler driving with one hand and filming me. And I was in front of him, and we’re gonna show off the track. So we do that and then we get done and he shows the footage to me. That’s what happened. But when you watch the video, it looks like Rocky’s right behind me, saying, ‘OK speed up a little bit,’ like he’s coaching me around the track. So I come out looking very amateur!,” Bucky tells The Boot, laughing. “And of course when I say, ‘No we need to do that again,’ he says, ‘I’ve already said that!’ So Rocky looks good in this motorcycle video too. But the only way he could ever beat me on a motorcycle is cheat!”

All terrain tires were made to go on all kinds of surfaces where standard tires fail to do so; this includes surfaces such as sand, dirt, gravel, sleet, snow, and ice. All terrain tires are made with steel rims that reinforce the tire from within. To complement these, the tires are made with rock solid rubber outer walls to endure all beatings from tough roads. On its surface, the tire grooves are noticeably deeper than those on standard tires. This allows for enhanced road grip whether on normal, extreme, or anything in between road conditions. Aside from this, all terrain tires provide a softer ride and superior braking power.

Aside from the above-mentioned benefits of comfort and stopping power, the enhanced road grip also provides a car with better acceleration. When you step on the gas, the tires hug the road at a stronger rate, covering more distance than regular tires or providing you with additional power to move the vehicle. Consequently, you can also use this feature in an alternative manner to reduce you fuel expenses by stepping a little more lightly on the gas pedal maintaining your normal rate of acceleration. Since the grip of all terrain tires covers more ground with the same amount of power, your engine can work with reduced effort. So if you choose to drive fast or economical, all terrains tires will aid you in attaining your set goal.

Whether your car be an economical subcompact, a family-sized SUV, or even your ol’ dependable pickup truck, all terrain tires provide you with an array of benefits. They improve your traction, increase comfort levels, provide consistent braking power, boost acceleration speeds, and heighten fuel efficiency. These tires also provide added safety and security while on the go allowing you the confidence that your car can conquer new challenges and flounce away old ones.

What would you do without tires? These are as important as the car engine because without the tires, you won’t be able to move an inch. Plus, it’s not just about moving per se, but how you move. The ride of any vehicle can depend largely on what kinds of tires you are using. For example, all terrain tires will give you an extraordinarily smooth ride even on rough surfaces because of the way it is designed. The large grooves of all terrain tires smooth over the bumps and holes on the road like it wasn’t even there.

This makes finding the best tires for a great and consistent ride very important. Your tires speak volumes about how much you care about your vehicle, and how important the ride is to you. ATV tires can also be responsible for the speed of your vehicle. Of course, this is provided you maintain your tires properly by checking its alignment and balance.

Where can you go to find the best tires? Generally, the best tires are the top brands in the market. These are because they have been in business for decades and know the tire business inside out. The engineering and creation of new designs make it possible for you to enjoy a better ride every time. It is not like the way it was years ago when a tire was just a tire.

Nowadays, tires are easily bought over the internet – regardless of brand and price. You might even be surprised to find out that the tires, like all terrain tires, might even be less expensive if bought on the internet because of the degree of competitiveness that exists there. You will also be able to save a tremendous amount of time and energy because you will do all your homework in the comfort of your home or office.

Seems every season we get a new set of rules and regulations laid on us when it comes to riding ATVs and offroading. A lot of that focus seems to be on the environment lately, and often it’s on kids.

Teaching kids at an early age is a great way to ensure their safety and their respect for themselves and the places they ride. The ATV Safety Institute (ASI) helps promote that philosophy.

The ASI has expert instructors that are very personable and knowledgeable in the field of ATV safety and eco-friendly behavior. Not only do they know ATV safety, they know how to explain it to others. That makes a huge difference for kids because kids don t have any pre-conceived notions about ATVs or the environment.

Kids are taught to not just wear a helmet, but to wear am ATV helmet to keep your head protected when you fall. They are taught that a seat isn’t as big as it is so you can ride passengers, it s that big so you can move around on it to make the ATV go where you want it to.

It makes a difference when the students know why, not just what.

GILBERTON – Acting on residents’ complaints, borough police are expected to propose an ordinance regulating all-terrain vehicle and dirt bike use in the borough at next month’s council meeting.

“We want to make people aware we are looking into it,” Gilberton Mayor Mary Lou Hannon said Friday. “We’ve had problems for years just like every other municipality and it is something we feel is needed.”

Hannon said the borough office and police department receives at least two complaints a week.

“We get complaints of kids riding on Main Street coming from Girardville and Mahanoy City, right on the highway, not just on our roads,” Hannon said. “Drivers are afraid they will hit them on the road.”

Hannon said the ordinance was in the planning stages before a July incident involving Councilman Robert Wagner, who was charged with verbally abusing Gilberton’s police chief and Hannon. The two counts of harassment were later dismissed by Magisterial District Judge Bernadette J. Nahas during a preliminary hearing in her Frackville courtroom, during which she said, “there was not enough evidence to warrant what he was charged with.”

The dismissed charges against Wagner were based on his conduct while complaining to Hannon and Police Chief Mark Kessler about ATV and dirt bike riders.

Hannon said when Wagner called, police investigated and no one was around.

“We decided we needed to do something on our own, not wait to catch someone to get the problem resolved,” Hannon said.

According to a news release issued by Kessler on Friday, the proposed ordinance will make it unlawful to operate an ATV or dirt bike in less than a two-acre lot or no closer than 100 feet from any lot line or 50 feet if fenced; and dust and noise must be controlled by the lot owner.

Also, the vehicles may not be driven on borough streets, paved or unpaved, and must have a federally approved spark arrestor.

The vehicle must display a registration plate from the DCNR and be insured if applicable.

Noise emissions will be regulated as well.

The vehicles may only be driven 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and must cease for a minimum of one hour after every hour of riding.

No one under 16 may operate or be a passenger on an ATV or dirt bike in the borough.

Hannon said she has seen children as young as 6 years old operating ATVs without supervision, and without helmets.

“That is just unacceptable. The parents should be hauled in,” she said.

Hannon said the ordinance is necessary to keep the roads safe for drivers and pedestrians.

“Most people are courteous and stay off the roads, but the bad ones ruin it on the good ones,” Hannon said. “The bottom line is it is illegal for these things to be on the road.”

Keywords:ATV

The issue of whether or not to allow all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) along Huron East roads was raised at Huron East council at its Aug. 10 meeting when council received a letter from a Seaforth man who recently purchased an ATV.

Randy Dayman, of Seaforth, asked that a bylaw be passed allowing ATVs along the shoulders of Huron East roads, saying he bought one, thinking that they were allowed on the back roads of the municipality.
“And, now I’ve been told that’s not true. If I had been told this at the start, I would have not spent the money to buy this ATV,” said his letter to council.

Clerk-Administrator Jack McLachlan told council that Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh, Morris-Turnberry and South Huron are the only three municipalities in Huron County that allow ATVs on their road allowances, adding that Central Huron allowed them for only one year.

Currently in Huron East, farmers and their employees are the only people who can drive ATVs on the shoulders of local roads as they participate in agricultural business. No one is allowed to drive ATVs on the roads themselves. The maximum speed limit is 50 km/h for ATVs.

McKillop Coun. Bill Siemon added that West Perth allows ATVs on their roads, suggesting that council take a look at West Perth’s related bylaw before making a decision about Huron East.

“We probably have more ATVs on our roads that they do on theirs,” he said of West Perth. “I don’t think they should be restricted. We should allow ATVs on our roads.”

Mayor Joe Seili warned councillors that a bylaw allowing ATVs on the municipality’s roads would open up a situation where recreational vehicles would come in from large urban centres like London.

“They’re been tearing up the roads in other municipalities. We’ve got to watch what we’re doing. We could get a lot of crop damage,” he said. “I’m warning you there have been problems in other areas. It’s not your locals.”

Tuckersmith Coun. Les Falconer said council dealt with the issue four years ago, deciding not to allow ATVs on Huron East roads and he reiterated that council should stick to its decision.

“It’s because of less traffic and because of crop damage and I think we should do the same again,” he said, adding that Huron East already gets complaints about snowmobiles and their noise.
Seaforth Coun. Bob Fisher wondered if the ATV riders would have to be insured and licenced and McLachlan responded that those requirements could be included in a bylaw.

Siemon and Deputy-Mayor Bernie MacLellan disputed about whether the Huron OPP or the municipal bylaw officer would have to enforce any bylaw created by Huron East.

Siemon said he thought the OPP would enforce the bylaw while MacLellan said his nephew was stopped by the OPP and told he could go to work on an ATV on one side of the road but couldn’t return home on the other side since it was in a different municipality. The officer then told his nephew that he wouldn’t give out tickets related to ATVs since that was the job of the municipal bylaw enforcement officer.

Seaforth Coun. Joe Steffler suggested that maybe Randy Dayman could get a job on a farm to make it legal for him to drive his ATV.

Steffler said Huron East should look into allowing ATVs for everyone in Huron East.

“We can always rescind the bylaw if some idiot screws up,” he said.

Administration was instructed to bring some sample ATV bylaws to the next council meeting.
Pull quote: “I’m warning you there have been problems in other areas. It’s not your locals,” Huron East Mayor Joe Seili

Keywords:ATV,kid ATV

These days there are just too many ATV dealers around – so much so that one could easily get confused with the name “ATV dealer” itself. To some, ATV dealers mean people who distributes ATVs to shops that sells ATVs, while some figures it simply mean that ATV dealers are people who sell ATVs to everyone – from the distributors to the retailers and not forgetting, the end users too. There are some who think that ATV dealers are manufacturers of ATVs as well!

Actually, the term “ATV dealer” may be wide but personally, I feel that as long as you are able to purchase an ATV from them and also get the after sales service that you’d need from them – they can be ATV dealers, ATV distributors, ATV wholesalers, or whatever other names that you can come up with. My biggest concern about buying ATVs is finding the right ATV dealer. What makes an ATV dealer the right one for you? Is it the price of their ATVs or the performance of their ATVs? If you have never bought an ATV before, I am sure that this article will be just the one you need to read – so let’s have a little “chat” on finding the right ATV dealer.

When you go hunting for an adult ATV, you will soon find that adult ATV dealers are a lot easier to find – they are practically everywhere. With a click of the mouse on the internet, you can practically find more than one ATV dealer in almost every state in the country. But, if you are on the lookout for a Kid ATV, it would be better to go to a dealer who specializes in manufacturing and selling ATVs for kids or youth. Yes, it is without doubt that most, if not all, adult ATV dealers also sell ATVs for kids or youth, but they may not be as focused on these items compared to Kid ATV dealers who concentrate on their sales of Kid or youth ATVs. One good place for you to check out iswww.atv-motorcycle.com When you negotiate with a Kid ATV dealer, you can be assured that they know what they are talking about when they present to you the choices of their Kid ATVs because it is what they do best – selling Kid ATVs. They can even tell you which model would be best for your kid, simply because they are professionals when it comes to selling Kid ATVs.

ATVs are gaining a great popularity among youths, adults as well as children. Hence, the knowledge of ATV safety should be growing as well. While the CPSC is committed to doing its part in promoting the safety issues of an ATV, the consumers, parents, manufacturers, dealers and retailers must also work hand in hand on this issue too. Here are some ATV safety tips for you – in case you have long forgotten about them.

1. Sign up for a hands-on safety training course

A safety training course enables riders to learn how to control their ATVs in typical situations – and in most cases, most ATV drivers who have gone through such courses have a lower injury risks compared to those with no formal or proper training.

2. Wear your protective gears!

Many a time, ATV injuries are head injuries and unless you want to risk “losing your head” while you are enjoying a ride on your ATV, always make sure that you wearing your helmet. Wearing a helmet when you are riding your ATV reduces the severity of head injuries, in the event of an unforeseen accident. However, when buying the helmet, please remember to check if it is certified by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and/or the Snell Memorial Foundation. On top of that, we also highly recommend that you wear over-the-ankle boots, goggles, gloves, long pants and long sleeved shirts to protect yourself against unnecessary cuts and injuries from rocks, trees as well as other kinds of debris.

3. Two is a crowd on an ATV

Most ATVs are designed for one person (meaning the rider) only and this means that passengers are not allowed. ATVs drivers must be able to shift their weight freely in all directions while they are riding and it is important that the drivers are able to maintain a safe control over their ATVs, especially on varying terrains and having a passenger will make it difficult for drivers to control their ATVs.

4. ATV = off road riding

Tempting as it may be, but one should never ride an ATV on paved roads. The designs of ATVs are not made for paved road riding. Riding an ATV on paved roads could cost you your life if you collide with cars or other vehicles. There have been reports of many fatalities involving ATVs that occur on paved roads. Be smart, ride your ATV on off paved road!

5. Children should not be allowed on adult ATVs

If you want your children to ride on an ATV, get them to ride on the youth ATVs instead of an adult ATV. About one third of ATV related deaths and injuries involving children are those who were driving or riding on an adult ATV. If your child is under 16 years of age, we encourage you to forbid them from riding an adult ATV. Instead, have them ride on something that they will have better control of – the youth ATVs.

6. Never ride ATVs under the influence of alcohol or drugs

It goes without saying that if you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you should never get behind any wheels – be it a car or an ATV. Alcohol and drugs messes up your reaction time and judgment – so stay off ATVs if you have consumed either one.

Seems every time I turn around I see some edgy eco-extremist group claiming ATVs destroy the eco-systems they ride in. Fact is, when ATV and offroading trails are used they are no different than an equestrian path and are not much worse than walking paths.

The ATV Safety Institute (ASI) covers the effects ATVs have on trail systems. As you can see from the above picture, ATV trails are not much different than walking paths. In fact, if I didn’t tell you, you probably wouldn’t even know that was an ATV trail.

ATV Safety Institute Teaches Respect for ATV Trails

That’s not to say ATVs can’t/don’t have an impact on the environment. They do just like every other type of transportation. From 16 lane super-highways to hiking paths through the back-country, we ALL have an impact. How you ride has an influence on how much impact you have.

So when I hear people making absurd claims about how much worse ATVs are than everything else I often have to hold back my urge to laugh in their face while explaining the meaning of hypocrisy.

Installing a seat cover on your All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) is one of the best ways to give yourself a lot more comfort and give your ATV your personal customized look. ATV seat covers commonly stretch over the entire seat and have straps that connect to each other under the frame of the seat. ATV seat covers are available for every make and model of ATV on the market and even for older ATV that are no longer made.

Instructions

•Step 1
Park the ATV on flat ground in a well-lit area. Locate the retaining screws that secure the seat to the frame of the ATV.

•Step 2
Remove the retaining screws from the frame of the seat using the screw driver. Push the seat forward and pull it off the ATV frame.

•Step 3
Place the ATV seat cover over one end of the seat (the corresponding end) and stretch it over the entire seat. Connect the straps to each other under the seat and pull the straps tight to secure the seat cover to the seat.

•Step 4
Replace the seat to the frame of the ATV. Replace the retaining screws in their corresponding holes and tighten the screws with the screw driver to secure the seat to the frame of the ATV.

I think part of the beauty of ATV riding for most people is that you don’t have to be as much an expert in getting on it and riding it. I think it’s very simple for most people and families to grab the bike, load it up and head out. Go where you need to go, ride, have a great time, come back and put it away. Clean it up a little, that’s always a good thing and have it ready for the next ride. As far as accessories go probably the very most important thing you can do is have a great helmet. Am ATV helmet that fits well, secured with a nice D ring underneath it. They don’t run the clasp type like you’ll find on a lot of bicycle helmets due to the speed. Speed on a motor sport, whether it’s street, dirt, ATV, they run the D ring so that if, nobody ever wants you to fall, but if you should upon impact it won’t break free. The D ring is going to stay on, stay put and do its job, which is to protect you in case you fall. That’s by far the most important thing.
